New Shingles Still Need Sound Flashing
New shingles need sound joints where the roof meets walls, chimneys and openings. The Village Roofers treats those connections as part of the replacement decision.

The Roof Has More Than One Water-Shedding Layer
The shingles overlap to shed rain down the slope. At a wall, that flow meets another surface and another drainage layer. Step flashing and related details have to direct the water back onto the roof rather than behind the wall.
A loose or disconnected joint does not become sound because fresh shingles cover the main slope. Flashing and its neighboring materials need their own condition and compatibility assessed.
For a leak at that transition, see roof flashing repair or request an inspection with the location of the concern.
Why Replacement Opens the Question
Removing the covering creates access to details that can be difficult to reach during a small repair. That lets the condition of existing flashing and substrate be considered before the new assembly closes them in.
Some metal can be suitable to retain, depending on condition, manufacturer requirements and whether it can reconnect correctly. Other details need replacement or reconstruction. The useful scope states which work is required instead of assuming that every old piece stays or that every joint is identical.
Wall drainage integration can require removing and restoring siding or coordinating masonry work. That access and neighboring trade scope affect the price.
A Complete Scope Reconnects the Joint
Deck repairs, underlayment, flashing, covering and edges have to fit together. Hidden deteriorated wood or a failed wall connection can expand the work after removal. The changed condition needs to be explained and included in the affected scope.
The point is a roof that continues to shed water through its details, with useful sound material retained where appropriate.
The roof replacement page explains the full assembly. Tell The Village Roofers about your roof and request a free inspection to discuss the work.
