Roof Cost Calculator explained

A home’s living space and its roof area are different measurements. This tool lets you keep a 2,000-square-foot roof-surface example, use a surface measurement you already have, or convert a known roof footprint using pitch.

The example is limited to the retained Oklahoma / Oklahoma City architectural asphalt scope. It makes area and exclusions visible so the result does not hide the work the actual roof may need.

Try the Supported Roof Budget Example

The calculator supports 1,500 to 3,000 square feet of measured roof surface. It converts a known roof footprint using pitch, then checks that the surface still falls within this range.

Keep the 2,000 sq. ft. example, or enter an area you already know. Roof footprint means the area covered, not total living space.

Keep the 6:12 example unless you already know the pitch. Pitch helps check material suitability.

Planning budget example

$9,000 to $15,000

Planning example for 2,000 sq. ft. of actual roof surface, using architectural asphalt shingles. Ordinary tear-off is included.

One existing shingle layer, ordinary access, moderate complexity and usable decking. Hidden wood damage, extra layers and other trades add to the work.

Oklahoma / Oklahoma City area planning figures, checked October 27, 2026.

Scope and assumptions behind this range

The $4.50 to $7.50 per measured roof-surface square foot example covers architectural asphalt replacement in the Oklahoma / Oklahoma City area. It is limited to 1,500 to 3,000 square feet of roof surface.

The example assumes one existing layer, ordinary access, moderate roof complexity and usable decking. Extra removal, damaged wood, structural work and other trades need separate allowances.

Figures were checked October 27, 2026. The calculator keeps roof footprint distinct from measured roof surface and uses pitch to convert a known footprint. The inspection and measured scope establish a project price.

How to Read the Budget

A result is useful only when the roof area and project scope mean the same thing as the planning model.

Input or conditionMeaningWhat happens next
Known roof surface
The measured sloped area covered by roofing.
The supported example uses 1,500 to 3,000 sq. ft. of this area.
Known footprint
The area the roof covers on a level plan, not the home’s total floor area.
Pitch converts it to surface area; converted results must stay in the same supported range.
Ordinary asphalt replacement
One layer removed, ordinary access, moderate complexity and usable decking.
Extra layers, hidden wood and other trades need separate allowances.
Low-slope or commercial work
A different roof system and scope.
Discuss the roof with us; the calculator does not transfer asphalt rates to those systems.
