Pipe and vent openings
A cracked collar opens a gap beside a pipe. The repair considers the collar, base flashing and shingle laps around it, replacing the affected components as needed.

A ceiling stain marks where water reached the room. We find the roof opening behind that symptom and explain the repair it needs.
Rain can enter above the spot where it drips inside. Decking, rafters and other surfaces give it a path before it reaches a ceiling. Treating the stain alone leaves that entry open.
We use the location and timing you already noticed to start the roof examination. A vent, valley, wall joint or damaged covering can create a similar indoor symptom, but each needs a different repair. You do not need to climb up or identify the failed part.

The repair follows the detail that failed and restores its connection to surrounding roofing.
A cracked collar opens a gap beside a pipe. The repair considers the collar, base flashing and shingle laps around it, replacing the affected components as needed.
Loose or incorrectly connected flashing lets water past a joint. Repair can require removing surrounding shingles and reaching the wall drainage layer, rather than adding another surface bead of sealant.
A membrane opening can send water into insulation and beneath the roof surface. Compatible repair and moisture extent determine the patch or removal boundary.
A repair needs a usable place to stop. When adjoining shingles are brittle, they can break while the failed detail is opened. Wet underlayment or deteriorated wood can require a larger area to be removed before sound connections can be rebuilt.
Those conditions explain why a leak repair can extend beyond the visible stain or missing shingle. If the work expands materially, the changed condition and scope need to be explained before the affected work proceeds.
For a leak beside a chimney or wall, the flashing repair page explains why the joint and neighboring materials matter.

The roof entry needs attention before interior finishing is restored, or another rain can damage the repair. Water near electrical equipment, a sagging ceiling or an unsafe area needs immediate safety attention.
It can when the entry was missed, connected details remain open or the surrounding assembly is deteriorated. The answer is to reassess the water path and scope, not assume every recurrence needs the same patch.
Tell us that. Wind can push rain through details that shed an ordinary shower. The roof examination checks the likely entry and its connections.
