Metal saddle flashing wrapped around a brick chimney base on a shingle roof

Roof Flashing Repair in The Village, OK

Water has to move safely where the roof meets a wall, chimney or opening. Flashing repair rebuilds those connections rather than covering a failed joint with sealant.

Repair the Joint Where Materials Meet

Flashing is the metal or system detail that directs water across a roof joint. At a wall, it has to work with the wall’s drainage layer as well as the roofing. At a pipe, it has to keep water from running beside the opening.

A loose piece, failed lap or disconnected wall detail needs a repair that restores that path. Sealant belongs in specific designed details; it does not replace missing metal, sound support or a proper connection behind neighboring materials.

Flashing Work Can Reach Behind the Wall

A roof-to-wall leak can involve more than the roof covering. Reconnecting flashing to the drainage layer behind siding or masonry sometimes requires careful removal and reinstatement of that neighboring material. Damaged wood adds another part to the scope.

That access and trade coordination affect cost. A replacement roof also gives the opportunity to examine flashing that would otherwise be concealed. Retained metal must suit the new assembly and its condition; new shingles alone do not make an old joint sound.

Flashing Repair FAQs

Is a chimney leak always a roofing problem?

No. The flashing, masonry, cap and other parts of the chimney can admit water. The roof work needs to be distinguished from masonry or other trade repairs.

Can flashing be reused?

Condition, compatibility, manufacturer requirements and the ability to reconnect it correctly determine that. A usable piece of metal still needs sound laps and connections to surrounding materials.

Will more caulk fix the wall joint?

A designed seal can be one component. If the water-shedding detail is missing or disconnected, the assembly needs repair rather than another coating over the opening.
